Day 9: Back to Lima

Early Wednesday morning, we took a cab back to the Cusco airport for our return trip to Lima. We had hoped to arrive in Lima early so we could enjoy two full days there before leaving for home, but, alas, it was not to be.

Check-in was uneventful, and we paid our airport tax and proceeded through security without incident. And then we sat...and sat....and sat. It seems weather was preventing planes from taking off. The first report we were given indicated there was a fog issue in Lima preventing us from landing (which made little sense considering Lima is perpetually foggy). Later reports indicated the fog issue was in Cusco. We were delayed in Cusco for several hours before finally flying to Lima.

A city by the sea, Lima is vastly different from any of the other places we visited in Peru. Vast and sprawling, Lima is way less touristy and much more urban, filled with tiny little cabs, colorful architecture and lots and lots of security. We were especially surprised by the electric fencing atop many of the gates surrounding the homes.

We stayed in Miraflores, about 45 minutes from the airport, depending on traffic.
