Day 6: Dammit, I can't sleep

I was so inspired by the beautiful sunrise I saw when I had to wake up early yesterday that I set the alarm to wake myself up early today so I could record the sunrise. The plan was to put the video camera outside on its tripod and push the button, then go back to bed for a few more hours and just let the camera roll (the video camera has a huge hard drive so I could record 7+ hours of sunshine if I really wanted to).

Only I am a control freak when it comes to the camera, and the pictures and video going into the camera, so I just could not. stop. checking. to make sure everything was recording well. The first time I checked it, the lens was a little fogged up (have I mentioned how ungodly humid it is in Cancun?). That made me paranoid, so I checked it again 10 minutes later and, after playing around with the settings, discovered there was a better setting to record sunrises (who knew?). Then I checked again and learned that I hadn't positioned the camera just right--I had aimed it at the pretty pink sky without remembering exactly where the big orange sun would make an appearance. My bad. Anywho, the video will now have a shift (which is gonna look awfully funny when I figure out how to speed it and make it sharable).

So instead of letting the camera roll, as planned, I got up again to turn it off and bring it back inside once it was clear that the sun was no longer orange. And now I am awake. Wide awake. Room service should be bringing our breakfast in 45 minutes or so, so I suppose I'll just lay here and update things and sleep on the plane later. So much for a restful vacation!

(You know, I really should get up and move the camera again before breakfast shows up--the staff here are going to think Mr. Y and I were up to all kinds of naughtiness the way the camera is currently facing...)
