Today began a little early for a Saturday. I met my friend D at her house and we drove to Almaden Lake for our a Saturday morning walk. We walked for about an hour, then we each went home to get ready for the Mountain View Art & Wine Festival.
Today was hot by CA standards--in the high 90s with what seemed like no breeze at all. The festival is large--we were told it stretched for a mile, meaning a walk of at least 2 miles to see the booths on each side of the street. Unfortunately for us, many of the booths contained things that were of absolutely no interest. I have no clue how many vendors were there selling hats and fake flower arrangements, and there were more jewelry artists than anything, I think.

D and Mr. Y led the way.

D was all about the jewelry, though, so we stopped and shopped a lot.

Finally, we reached the crepe stand!

D and I waited in line to order a crepe while Mr. Y went next door for a sandwich and some garlic fries. (We look seriously sunburned here due to the red tarp--fortunately we remembered our sunscreen today so sunburn was not an issue.)

They had the same crepe menu as last year, which meant they had my 3 berry crepe. Yum!!!

The making of a crepe:
1. pour the batter

2. spread the batter thin

3. add some chilled mixed berries

4. sprinkle a little powdered sugar

5. Add some whipped cream

6. fold it up

7. a touch of powdered sugar, then serve.

D had to take a pic of me with my crepe. =)

Mr. Y had a chicken sandwich and garlic fries. The sandwich was great, the fries weren't as good as last year's, unfortunately

There was quite a crowd for the live music.

D found more jewelry when we were finished with lunch. This vendor specialized in vintage typewriter key jewelry as well as vintage Scrabble letter jewelry and other novelties.

A real D-lemma: typewriter key D pendant or Scrabble D ring? (She bought the ring.)

After a lot more walking and a lot of disappointment with the type of vendors in attendance, D found more jewelry. This time it was jewelry made of old sterling silver and silver plated silverware. D is partial to rings.

Interesting method of sizing a ring (ring sizing pole + little hammer = ring big enough for D's middle finger):

Next stop, Starbucks! By this time we were hot, tired and ready for some ice-cold beverages and some good people watching.

(Poor Mr. Y was too hot and tired to smile.)
If you people watch long enough in CA, you're bound to see something you've never seen before. This time, a dog wearing sunglasses!
D disappeared for a few minutes to buy some handmade soap.
And I finally found something to buy for my kitchen: a handmade dip server that lets you serve dip, sauce, gravy, etc., either hot or cold, and keep it the correct temperature for hours.
Unfortunately, I can't show pics of the other items I purchased, because I was doing a little Christmas shopping. I will update this post later with one other item I did buy for myself: some framed antique seed packets for the kitchen. Last year I bought some then realized too late that I had room for more and fortunately I found the same seller so I could acquire them.
On an unhappy note, Dezine 9 was nowhere to be found, so it looks like I'll be making the trip to Burlingame during business hours one of these days to acquire my hand-painted evening bag.
