Today I get my new work laptop. We have the option of turning our computer in for the day (and thus not being able to work) while the IT dept moves the files to the new computer, or taking the new computer, a fancy cable and some detailed instructions and moving the data on our own. I have heard that the latter method is much faster, and is really easy, so against my better judgment I picked up my new machine and returned to my desk for a day of IP migration.
Only the first step in the process is to log in to the new computer using my existing user name and password... and it didn't work. It didn't work the 10 times I tried it. So I had to call our IT department and get instructions on how to log in. If I can't even log in on my own, this does not bode well for my ability to successfully (and quickly) move my files. Something tells me I should have our IT department on speed dial. =)
